Murat Germen is a professor of art, photography, and new media at Sabanci University in Instanbul, Turkey. His work focuses on finding things people ignore and presenting them in an interesting light. Germen claims "It is easy to take ordinary photos of extraordinary things but more challenging to take extraordinary photos of ordinary things." Judging by his photos, I tend to agree. He distorts ordinary shots of cities and creates images that are completely unqiue yet familiar.
I know nothing more about this image than the fact that it can also be found on ffffound, and the woman in the picture is beautiful. If you know any more details about this photo, leave a comment below.
*Update: This photo is by the wonderful Ryan Connors.
Terence Chang has captured San Francisco like I've never seen before. He stays clear of the cliché shots of the city, and shows us some great new sights and perspectives of the city. Terence makes great use of fog and lights to create some interesting photos. Check out more of his photos on Flickr.
Wow. That is the word that comes to mind when I see Mikko Lagerstedt's photos. Mikko is an incredibly talented, self taught, photographer who only started taking photos in December of 2008. I wish I could share every photo he has taken because they are all that good. Each one is well composed, has an amazing atmosphere, and incredible lighting. You could get lost for hours browsing his photostream.
This is one of the amazing sets that Bert Stern took with Marilyn Monroe at the Hotel Bel Air before her tragic death. You can buy Marilyn Monroe: The Last Sitting at Amazon, which has more amazing shots of her last session. You can also look forward to a few posts in the future featuring more shots from this sessionl.
Mario Moreno is an expert wildlife, landscape and travel photographer. He has spent the past 12 years exploring Africa and capturing some truly breathtaking scenes. He searches for the "Perfect Moment" when "everything comes together ... Light, Timing and Emotions that create a memorable and forever lasting scene !" He's definitely perfected capturing those perfect moments. These beautiful silhouettes are just the tip of the iceberg. check out his 500px account for some more great photos!
Solitude is a funny thing. It can either make you feel alone or it can give you strength and a needed break. This series, entitled Nowhere by Michel Rajkovic perfectly captures this state of solitude. Each photo brings you into a world void of everything but the subject in focus. The use of black and white helps accentuate the subject and make everything around it seem barren.
In honor of the International Year of Forests, Doo Creative teamed up with photographer Suresh Natarajan to create the Green Guardians Calendar 2011 and we can all be glad that they did. These shots perfectly match the beauty of women and mother nature.
Android Jones' abstract portraits are something to behold. You can't help but be entranced by all the shapes, colors, and patterns beautifully interwoven together. I highly suggest taking a look at the full sized images on his portfolio. They are truly pieces of art.
Here's a video of Jones creating his self portrait:
